Page of Wands - Self-Reliance

The main message here in the Page of Wands, that represents the element of Fire which embodies action and energy. This card urges us to express ourselves, and let our voices be heard, and not to hold back.

Expressing ourselves in a clear, precise, and assertive manner, is a way to feel good about ourselves. There is a confidence that comes from knowing, valuing, relying, and believing in yourself.

We let go of what others think, this may be risky in one way or another, as others may not approve or agree. They may even think that you've lost you mind all together, dismissing your ideas as silly or fantastical, especially if you have a particular goal, adventure or quest in mind.

I have been reading a wonderful book by Chris Guillebeau, The Happiness of Pursuit. In Chapter 5 entitled, Self-Reliance. There is something said here, that I think is very interesting, a very important point to consider when on a quest, and is at the heart of the Page of Wands, as it speaks of the need to be self-reliant, regardless of what others think or how they dismiss or judge you.

" WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT AN ADVENTURE OR QUEST THAT INVOLVES PERCEIVED RISK: "

 Successful Outcome: brave, courageous, confident
Failed Outcome: stupid, risky, naive, arrogant

Life is risky but nothing worth pursuing is risk free.

We need to be our own heroine or hero, having a deep sense of self-reliance and purpose, in expressing our creative voice. If not, we can experience a restlessness and unease, in unrealized hopes and dreams, possibly resulting in not having a sense of knowing who we really are, and what we can achieve through all the action and energy that the suit of Wands has to offer.

I had to become self reliant because, I had to take care of my family on my own. I am glad I was able to. Now I realize taking care of myself is also an important part of self reliance. There has to be a strong sense of self, to rely on. Today I am not so strong. I feel sad to have lost the future I've dreamed of. This is often the case when I have visited my husband. "unrealized hopes and dreams" are to much on my mind today...

I empathize very much Ellen.

Self-reliance is a good thing but having to do things constantly on your own for me is different than self-reliance. Having to struggle by yourself can be very wearisome and it can be very difficult. I just take it one day at a time otherwise I would become overwhelmed.

As well I believe deeply in my heart, people are not meant to be alone, but many of us are, the majority as a matter of fact, so what can you do?

I know can't settle for second best or worse just to have a warm body roaming around! So I have to find contentment where I am, how I am. Most of the time it's good but, oh there are days...and I like you have been experiencing these as of late. You are not alone <3 Love, Catherine Hugs

thanks you Catherine. As the saying goes.:Trouble shared is trouble halved. Most of the days I am genuine content with my life and so proud of how far have come after my breakdown But sometimes I feel stuck in a kind of limbo: being married and widowed at the same time
Thanks for sharing you feelings with me It helps a lot
Hugs

Yes this is so true. As I have said many times I would be so lost without my chosen sisters! They have always been there for me, always! I too was married and widowed Ellen at a very young age 27. So very long ago. But I still grieve some days.

Like I often say also, please excuse my crudeness...but life can suck the big one sometimes! Lol Love you Ellen! So happy we are friends and I have chosen you as my sister!

Your post reminds me of a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it's in hot water.” People might call women foolish or headstrong, and though the men might "appear" to be in charge, we are the ones who keep the world turning. :) And goodness help anyone if we women form a coalition... :D

Oh I love that Bev! Being a coffee person I relate to java beans over a bags! Lol
Yes if only women ran the world we would be living in a very different place.
Men don't get the word coalition...interferes with their egos I'm afraid. :)
