Ace of Pentacles - Don't Piss Off Poseidon

According to Greek mythology Poseidon was a god to be feared, though he did have his positive side in spite of his changeable and unpredictable moody nature. He could calm the rough waters and then create turbulent storms and earthquakes. You didn't want to get on his bad side. He loved the ladies and his horses. 

Regardless of the fact that the Ace of Pentacles is a Minor Arcana card, it is a force to be reckoned with. This card epitomizes a raw and powerful energy at it's best I think, but could be the exact opposite at it's worst. I relate to Poseidon mainly because of the water he inhabited, sitting at the bottom of the ocean.
His paternal heritage was that of being the overseer of the all the waters and controlled the surface of the earth. He makes things happen in a powerful way. He is the fertility god and husband of the great Earth Mother and lord of the physical universe.

Today, drawing this card I am thinking about my late mother, being her Birthday, February 4th. She was a air sign and and very much an Aquarius. As a Gemini, also an air sign we were very close. We shared many of the same qualities I think, independence, indecisive, stubbornness, a good communicator, a deep thinker, intelligent and liked to help others.

Like the Ace of Pentacles, my mother made things happen in her life and in the life of others. I think when I was younger I was rather unaware of just how much energy and strength of character she actually had to accomplish what she did, in spite of all the struggles and obstacles in her path. She stepped over them and never let this impede her. She very much embodied many of the strong, positive traits and characteristics of Poseidon. Like Poseidon she was fiercely protective and cared so much for her children. I know I'd never be in the position I am in, if it wasn't for her loving care and strength of character. My mother made me a better person, brought me happiness and taught me so many invaluable lessons that I am so grateful for everyday.

Not that she was perfect, I know she could be moody, temperamental, and even a little prone to jealousy, but I couldn't have asked for a better mother, as a friend and as a wise confidante that I could depend on. I miss her greatly.

Ace of Pentacles - I Vant To Be Alone

There is a report on a scientific study done, which was published in Science Magazine, that has found that there are people who would prefer giving themselves electrical shock over sitting alone in a room doing nothing!

Here's a quote from the article.

" In 11 studies, we found that participants typically did not enjoy spending 6 to 15 minutes in a room by themselves with nothing to do but think, that they enjoyed doing mundane external activities much more, and that many preferred to administer electric shocks to themselves instead of being left alone with their thoughts. Most people seem to prefer to be doing something rather than nothing, even if that something is negative. "

That sounds pretty crazy. But I am not really so surprised, knowing we are presently living in a busy society of human doings rather than human beings, in pursuit of stuff and things.

Many of us are not comfortable in our own skins, constantly trying to find peace, happiness, and contentment outside ourselves or on accumulating things. We don't believe that a withdrawal from the busyness, sitting quietly with our thoughts doing nothing, could ever be beneficial, especially because it feels so foreign and uncomfortable.  We often are defined by what we do, rather than by who we are as individuals

During Lent and leading up to Easter, is a time I naturally withdraw into myself in reflection, taking a kind of self-inventory. Easter seems to have gotten absorbed into more of a consumer holiday, filled with chocolate bunnies, candy, eggs, consuming copious amounts of food,  and even gift giving.

The Ace of Pentacles in the Mythic Tarot is embodied by Poseidon, who points the way. He is the father of all the waters, the god of the sea, and of the earth's surface, lord of all the universe rising out of the ocean, where we all come from, and he symbolizes the inner most representation of our creative selves. 'Husband of the earth' is the meaning of his name, the fertility god, who's creative energy is turned downward into our world.

The Ace of Pentacles is husband of the great Earth Mother, Demeter or The Empress. Pentacles, symbolic of the receptive Earth, which is the element of patience, stability, commitment, discipline, permanence and strength. These are all qualities needed that enable us to find our meaning, purpose and happiness, and we can find them, when we take time to be alone with our thoughts, with the right energy we can create the fertile ground, for the promise of good things to come.

Ace of Pentacles - New Beginnings

Poseidon, seen here in the Ace of Pentacles, is a real big guy, the son of Cronos and Rhea, brother to Hades and Zeus. He is the "husband of the earth", the god of fertility, of all the waters and of the earth's surface, possessing great power and strength. Poseidon is a mover and a shaker.

All the Aces are powerful, always representing new beginnings and innovative ideas.
Here we find a wellspring of raw energy toward creativity and inspiration. The Ace of Pentacles symbolizes the material plane, in the form of the physical body or monetary things.


Since paying off my mortgage in November I am finally beginning to feel less of a financial burden. Struggling on your own so long is a real challenge. As much as I can stress about this pressure, I really wouldn't have changed it, because it has made me the person I am, and I have come to greatly love, and appreciate the kindnesses of others toward me. I have learned a lot about myself, some positive, some negative, which is all part of the learning process in the cycle of life

The little pleasures have so much to offer us, and if we can't appreciate them, no sum of money, or things will ever bring happiness.
When we are little, we have a true sense of awe, wonder and joy, taking such pleasure in simple things, and time spent with those we love and who love us.
A day at the beach with my little cousins, picking berries, spending time in the garden with my grandfather, exploring the woods, playing with my dog, or feeling such excitement over the first snow fall, were all things I remember, and I think it is important to be in close touch with these things to keep them at the forefront of my mind, knowing it is the simple things and especially our relationships, is where we find real pleasure, happiness and wealth.

 Yesterday I was very sad to learn of the death of another beautiful friend, who was a very kind, down to earth, humble man, who was very much loved and respected. Lately there have been a number of people that have died in our close knit community, that will be greatly missed.

The weather today is very Wintery with a storm in progress, but it doesn't bother me one bit, because I am appreciating the simple things.
I put on a big pot of chili in my slow cooker for supper. I finally got my internet going after being able to get myself a new router yesterday, my car insurance paid, and am well prepared for a power outage or a flat tire because I was able to afford some kerosene for my lamp, and a handy-dandy emergency, portable air compressor, and good sized order of groceries. My good neighbour just arrived to plow me out.

Life is sweet, beautiful, good, and so very transitory. I intend to savour every minute, as it is, for however long it is. I am grateful for life, every day.

Ace of Pentacles - Where To Find Pennies From Heaven

I am feeling very under the weather today, with a real achy, nose running, crappy cold, and I sure don't feel anything like Poseidon, the 'husband of the earth' which his name means. It's is a card that greatly makes me feel hopeful, especially when I am in monetary need.

The message is 'here come pennies from heaven', a very favourable sign, with an anticipated new career, sudden available funds, creative energy, and  growth opportunities, springing from a raw force of nature. Poseidon is a mover, and an Earth-Shake, ruling over the sea and all the water ways.

Well that's good news, because I feel so lack luster, not to mention like my late husband would describe, feeling like a piece of re-fried s_ _ _.

 So now, I get horizontal in my bed! Hoping to feel a whole lot better tomorrow!
